Bundle me up! Heat loss in infants

Ever wonder why doctors recommend that newborns and infants are swaddled?  Aside from helping to calm the baby, swaddling and other measures are important actions to help a newborn maintain their core body temperature.  The normal axillary (arm pit) temperature range for a newborn is 97.5 ˚F – 99˚ F (36.4 ˚C – 37.2˚ C).  Temperatures outside of this range can lead to or indicate a problem.
